GX260 Heatsink

I have a Optiplex GX260 and I would like to know if I have a new cpu, can I use my old heatsink with it. I read something along time ago that your not suppose to use the same heatsink, if you replace the cpu. Does anyone know about this situation? Please reply.

Thank you,

Thank you for the information. Why I asked, I had gotten a Gx260 motherboard with a processor and heatsink.  But the motherboard was from a full tower pc and I have a small desktop, The heatsink they sent was taller  than the original one and I couldn't close the case with the fan motor attached, so I left it open about an inch from closing. Now that I know I can put the original heatsink, I will be able to close it. I just wanted to make sure that it was ok to change, because I didn't want anything to happen to the cpu. So, you think it will work ok. I hope it does.  I will wait for awhile before I change it. Thanks agian.

There are no issues with re-using the heatsink.

Make sure the thermal interface pad or grease or whatever is used fits properly.

Too much grease is worse than not enough.

Tower Case CPU's use a completely different heatsink and fan than the Desktop models with Dust Buster Fans.
